UXB kindly sent me their rice milk & honey moisturiser to try out for free as I happened to buy my favourite cleanser (rice milk & honey) right at the time they launched the new moisturiser. Ive been waiting a few weeks to leave a review to see how it is for my skin.
This is going to be a very thorough review, so here is a quick summary. Overall, I highly recommend this moisturiser. It's entirely made with sensitive and oily skin in mind, it feels lovely and it doesn't make me break out (very important factor for sensitive and oily skin!!). Now for the long review :)
So first of all, it's a beautiful sorbet-like texture. When you first put it on, it feels a bit like a film, a little greasy, but this goes away within 30 seconds to a minute of applying it. Afterwards, it feels beautifully moisturising and completely grease free. I have super oily skin and have recently given up on my night time routine because I am lazy and can't be bothered anymore, lol, so its extra important that my daily moisturiser doesnt make me feel clogged up. It feels similar to the cleanser itself - extremely hydrating, plumping and cleansing without feeling greasy or heavy!
Second of all, it smells like moisturiser, a bit like suncream. This might be a negative for a lot of people, but for me this shows UXB is actually making their products for sensitive skin with sensitive skin in mind. A lot of companies do not do this and throw 1001 ingredients and a variety of 7 scents into their sensitive products for some reason. So even though a nice scent is important to some people, if you have sensitive skin like me you know that unfragranced is the best!
Finally, I wouldn't say it clears or clogs my skin. Because I dropped my night time routine, my skin hasnt been amazing. However, I went through a period recently of using expensive branded products such as Clinique, Espa and Elemis, and my skin had never been so bad and painful. I usually have fairly clear skin with a couple of spots dotted around my face at any given time, so this was a really distressing time for my confidence. I decided it was stupid to be paying for these expensive well-known brands that dont even have their customer's needs in mind, and also I was dumb for shopping around for skincare when I knew what worked for me, thus I came back to UXB. So, my skin is back to its normal state! No inflammation, no oiliness, no painful face. I am ok with having a couple of spots as it's natural and UXB's cleanser and moisturiser (and sulphuric acid face masks!) have reminded me that I shouldn't be aspiring for an airbrushed, android-esque look to my face, just what makes me feel confident, clean and happy, and doesn't break me out.
Thirdly, the packaging is very cute and sleek! One issue is that there is no seal on the moisturiser, and the moisturiser is very full (they aren't stingy with their products) which meant when I opened it it leaked everywhere to my surprise. I do find plastic seals wasteful and fiddly more than anything, so I don't mind this personally but maybe a point for improvement or a warning for other customers!
Finally, even though I got it for free as a lovely gift, the price is really fair and even too good to be true in my opinion! For a moisturiser of this quality I'd be expecting to pay between £32-40. And no one can fault the customer service! UXB is so so wonderful. I am about to convert my mother to UXB for her birthday in November... she spends far too much on her Elemis products.
